FAQ

Questions about Reflexy

Reflexy is a private journal for self-reflection on iPhone and iPad. These answers cover accounts, feelings and needs, app lock, encrypted backups, the 14-day trial, lifetime access, devices, languages, and support. Every answer begins with the short version; open a question to read the rest.

Getting started

Reflexy needs no account and no sign-up: download it from the App Store, and the journal lives on your iPhone or iPad. A Story is one entry about a moment. Text, a photo, feelings, needs, and activities are all optional, so an entry can be as short as a few words.

Do I need an account?

No Reflexy account is required. Optional iCloud backups use your Apple iCloud account.

What is a Story?

A Story is a journal entry about something that happened: a conversation, a walk, a good afternoon. Every Story has a date and can include a short title, a longer description, one photo, Activities, Feelings with intensity, Needs, and tags. All of these are optional.

A day can hold several Stories, and you can date an entry today or in the past. Stories are what Insights summarize: the charts count what you recorded in them over a week, a month, six months, or a year.

Do I have to write a lot?

No. A few words, a photo, an activity, or a couple of feelings can be a complete entry. Text and a photo are both optional, and so is a title.

Creating a Story has five steps: title and description, Activities, image and tags, Feelings, and Needs. You can skip any step while writing, or turn off the ones you do not use in Settings → Configure new story flow, so future entries stay as short as you like.

Do I need a website login?

No. There are no accounts anywhere: not in the app and not on this website. reflexy.app has no sign-in, no member area, and nothing to register for.

The only form on the site is the contact form, which sends a message to support. Your journal is not connected to the website in any way; it lives in the app on your iPhone or iPad.

Feelings, needs and aims

Reflexy gives you 36 Feelings in four groups, each rated for intensity from 1 to 10, and 40 Needs in seven groups. Aims are your own goals, linked to the Activities that support them. Insights charts only what you selected; nothing reads your text, and there is no AI.

How do feelings and intensity work?

Reflexy includes 36 Feelings in four groups: Joy, Sadness, Anger, and Fear. When you complete a Story, choose as many feelings as fit the moment; mixed feelings are expected.

Each selected feeling gets its own intensity from 1 to 10. It starts at 5, and you move it up or down. Intensity is your own rating of how strong the feeling was, not something Reflexy measures. The vocabulary is fixed: you choose from these 36 words rather than adding your own.

What are needs?

Needs are what mattered to you behind a feeling or a goal: rest, trust, autonomy, connection. Reflexy includes 40 Needs in seven groups: Physical Well-Being, Connection, Autonomy, Meaning & Harmony, Play, Celebration & Mourning, and Integrity.

You choose the needs yourself when you complete a Story, and you can attach needs to an Aim. Reflexy does not infer needs from your feelings or your writing; it records the ones you selected and shows them in Insights.

What are Aims and Activities?

Aims are your own goals, such as spending more time outdoors. An Aim can be linked to the Needs it supports and to helpful Activities.

Activities are things you do: walking, reading, time with family. Reflexy suggests 67 activities in eight categories, and you can add your own. When you record an activity in a Story, you choose which of its Aims it supported, so goals appear in your journal and in Insights.

There are no deadlines, progress targets, or daily counters. Reflexy is not a to-do app.

Does Reflexy use AI to analyze my entries?

No. Insights show only what you recorded. The charts count the Feelings, Needs, Activities, Aims, and tags you selected in your Stories, and Emotional tone uses the intensities you set. Nothing reads your text or photos to guess how you felt.

Reflexy has no AI features: no summaries, no suggestions, no predictions. You make the interpretation; the app gives you a vocabulary and a place to look back.

Is Reflexy a mood tracker or a medical app?

Reflexy is a journal for self-reflection, not a mood tracker and not a medical app. It records what you choose to write and select, and shows those selections back to you in charts. It does not score your mood, diagnose anything, or tell you what to do next.

Reflexy is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis, treatment, therapy, or emergency assistance. If something feels serious, talk to a doctor, a therapist, or a local emergency service.

Privacy and security

Your Reflexy journal is stored on your device with iOS file protection. App lock with a six-digit passcode and optional Face ID or Touch ID is on by default. There are no ads and no advertising tracking; Apple and RevenueCat process purchase metadata only, never your entries, photos, or backups.

Do I have to use a passcode or Face ID?

No. App lock is on by default, but you can skip the initial PIN setup or turn it off in Settings. Biometrics are optional, too.

What information is shared with Apple or RevenueCat?

They process purchase information, including purchase analytics, for payments and access to paid features. Your entries, photos, and backup contents are not sent to RevenueCat or the developer. If you choose iCloud backups, those copies are stored in your iCloud account.

Where is my journal stored?

On your device. Stories, photos, Feelings, Needs, Aims, Activities, and tags are kept inside the app on your iPhone or iPad, protected by iOS file protection. There is no Reflexy account and no developer server holding your journal.

Journal content leaves the device only when you choose a backup or an export. An iCloud backup goes to your own iCloud account; an exported .reflexy file goes wherever you save it. Both are encrypted by Reflexy first. Apple’s own device backups are controlled separately by your iOS settings.

Does Reflexy show ads or track me?

No. Reflexy has no ads, no advertising tracking, and no cross-app tracking. It does not record behavioral analytics about how you use your journal, and there is no developer server that receives your entries.

What is processed: Apple and RevenueCat handle purchase metadata, such as purchase history, transaction and product identifiers, dates, and access status, to verify and restore access and for purchase analytics. That information does not include your entries, photos, or backups.

Backups

A Reflexy backup is a saved copy of your journal in an encrypted .reflexy file, not live sync. Export it anywhere, or keep optional copies in your own iCloud account. The recovery key normally follows through iCloud Keychain, and you also get a recovery code; without one of them a backup cannot be opened.

Do iCloud backups keep my devices in sync?

No. A backup is a saved copy of your journal, not live synchronization. You can create copies manually or turn on automatic backups, then import a backup when you need to restore or transfer your journal.

Are backups and exported files encrypted?

Yes. New .reflexy files encrypt the journal and photos. The recovery key normally follows through iCloud Keychain, and Reflexy gives you a recovery code to keep somewhere private. Reflexy never asks for your Apple Account password.

What if I lose the recovery code?

If iCloud Keychain delivers the backup key to your new device, you can still open the backup without the code. The key normally follows your Apple Account; the recovery code is the fallback when it does not.

If you still have a device where your journal opens, Settings can show the recovery code again after Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. Save it somewhere private.

Without the key or the code, an encrypted backup cannot be opened, not by you and not by the developer. There is no reset.

Can I use Reflexy on two devices?

Yes, on an iPhone and an iPad. Create a backup on one device and import it on the other, from iCloud backups or from an exported .reflexy file.

A backup is a saved copy, not live sync. Import replaces the journal on that device after you confirm, and entries made separately on two devices are not merged, so make a fresh backup before each transfer. Full access follows your Apple Account, not the backup; use Restore purchases & previous access on the second device if it does not appear.

Does erasing my journal also delete its backups?

Erasing the journal on your device does not delete copies already saved to iCloud or exported elsewhere. Remove those copies separately if you no longer want to keep them.

Trial and purchase

Reflexy is free to download. You choose when to start the 14-day trial, and it never converts to a charge. Lifetime access is a single one-time purchase with no subscription; the App Store shows the price for your country. After the trial, reading, exporting, importing, and deleting stay available.

Is Reflexy free?

Reflexy is free to download, and you choose when to start 14 days of full access. The trial begins only when you tap Try 14 days free, and it never converts to a charge.

Lifetime access is a separate one-time purchase: one payment, no subscription, no renewal.

Without full access, before the trial or after it ends, you can still read your journal, import and export backups, and delete data. Creating and editing Stories, Aims, and Activities need an active trial or lifetime access.

What happens when my trial ends?

You will not be charged automatically. Reading, importing, exporting, and deleting remain available. A one-time purchase gives you lifetime access to creating and editing as well.

How much does lifetime access cost?

The App Store shows the price for your country before you buy. Prices differ by storefront and currency, so this website does not list one; open the purchase screen in Reflexy to see yours.

It is one payment. There is no renewal, no subscription, and nothing to cancel. The 14-day trial is a separate free choice and does not turn into this purchase on its own.

I bought an earlier version, do I pay again?

No. Verified users of earlier production versions of Reflexy keep full access without another purchase. Access is recognized from your Apple purchase history, so use a device signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with.

If full access does not appear, open Settings and tap Restore purchases & previous access. A backup file alone does not grant access: importing an old journal restores your entries, not your purchase, and it does not start a new trial.

How do refunds work?

Apple handles refunds. Reflexy is sold through the App Store, so the developer cannot issue a refund directly. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with the Apple Account that made the purchase; Apple reviews the request under its own rules.

Any statutory right of withdrawal you may have as a consumer is also handled through Apple, not through the developer.

Devices and languages

Reflexy runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later, and is available only from the App Store. There is no Android version, no web app, and no Mac app. The app, including the built-in Feelings and Needs, is available in nine languages and follows your iOS language setting.

Which devices does Reflexy support?

iPhone and iPad, running iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. The same journal format works on both, so a backup made on an iPhone can be imported on an iPad.

There is no Android version, no web app, and no Mac app. Reflexy is available only from the App Store.

Which languages does Reflexy support?

Nine: English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, and Simplified Chinese. The built-in Feelings and Needs are translated too.

Reflexy follows the language you set for it in iOS. There is no language picker inside the app; to switch, open the iOS Settings app, find Reflexy, and choose a language. Your own entries stay exactly as you wrote them.

Why does the App Store call it "Mindfulness Diary"?

It is the same app. The App Store listing is currently titled “Mindfulness Diary - Reflexy”, and the title is being updated to match the name used here. Everything on this site describes the app you get from that listing: Stories, Feelings and Needs, encrypted backups, the 14-day trial, and lifetime access.

If Reflexy is already installed, there is nothing to do; updates arrive through the same App Store entry.

How is Reflexy different from a mood tracker or a subscription journal?

Reflexy records feelings with intensity and the needs behind them, not a single mood score. A Story can hold several Feelings, each rated 1 to 10, plus Needs, so a mixed day stays mixed.

Aims are linked to Activities and recorded in Stories, so goals appear in your journal and Insights.

Next to apps like Day One or Daylio, check: accounts, recurring payments, AI features, and what stays readable if you stop paying. Reflexy’s answers: no account, one payment, no AI, and a journal that stays readable and exportable.

Support

Reflexy support is an email address, [email protected], or the contact form on this site. In the app, Settings → Contact support prepares an email with an optional technical report that you can preview or leave out. Deleting data happens on the device; copies in iCloud or exported elsewhere are removed separately.

How do I contact support?

Email [email protected] or use the contact form at reflexy.app/contact.

In the app, Settings → Contact support prepares an email for you. You can attach an optional technical report (app and iOS versions, device family, a one-time report ID, timestamps, and sanitized error codes from the current launch) and preview it or leave it out before your email app opens. The report never contains journal content, photos, passcodes, or recovery codes, and nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a Story from its row actions to remove it and its photo. To start over, use Settings → Your data → Erase journal on this device. It removes all Stories, photos, custom Activities, Aims, tags, and local backups, then restores the built-in suggestions.

Copies elsewhere are separate. Delete iCloud backups in Reflexy’s iCloud backups list or in your iCloud settings, and delete exported .reflexy files where you saved them. Purchase records stay with Apple and RevenueCat; erasing the journal does not change your access or restart the trial.

Still have a question?

If the answers above didn't cover it, write to Reflexy support. We reply by email. Questions about backups, purchases, and restoring access are the most common, and everything else is welcome too. Please don't paste journal entries into a message.
